Maybe this is an indication this is an early unit and the manual might have been printed after a firmware update. I'd have to go through all 99 of them and annotate my own names and descriptions, unless I made my own instead. They're almost all very good, but I would find it hard to use them without a printed cross-reference to use for selecting. The biggest mystery is why the Performance Bank is almost completely different from what is in the user manual, even after a system reset. Not a fault of the device just pointing out that it is probably idealised for mating with a weighted keyboard, which is actually a good thing. Otherwise, even with light playing, everything sounded harsh like it was at a full 127 most of the time. I was able to get a better match after changing the velocity curve of my CS6x. My only master keyboard controller right now is the Yamaha CS6x, which has synth action, so I had hoped to modify the velocity of the GM-x, but the light for that function gets skipped when I cycle the Edit button. I found once I evaluated all the sounds dry, that a few benefited from some very subtle reverb (8 or less) - but it's not a very transparent reverb so must be used cautiously. my initial impressions of the sounds although the weak sounds do sound weaker at that point. This made a huge difference for the better vs. The first thing I did was set reverb and effects to 0. Simply an oversight and not a bug, but it could be made clearer in the manual. The reset function is confusing as the manual indicates that the lights stop blinking when it is done, yet even if I waited fifteen minutes, they never stopped blinking unless I manually selected the performancce mode button as a way of exiting the system maintenance mode. I had some trouble producing sound at first, but a system reset took care of that. I've been off-line for the past week in order to avoid distractions during a very challenging r&d phase.
